Story Mode
How Story mode lets you write freely without automatic You conversion in Questsmith.
Story Mode
Story mode gives you complete freedom to write and add text directly in your adventure.
Inputs submitted with Story are not altered with You like Do and Say inputs are.
Example
- Player input: I am an adventurer in the magical kingdom of Larion.
- Input sent to the AI: I am an adventurer in the magical kingdom of Larion.
Story inputs are treated the same as AI outputs, so no icon appears next to these actions in the game screen.
What You Can Do
With Story, you can do anything: force story events to happen, write actions from different character perspectives, or let the AI finish an incomplete sentence to continue the story.
- Force events: Push the plot in a specific direction.
- Write from another perspective: Switch viewpoint when needed.
- Finish a sentence: Let the AI continue a partial line naturally.
Examples
- Player input: Then, the wise old man says to you,
- Possible AI output: "Ah... you're an adventurer, I see."
- Player input: You sweep your blade at the enemy, and shout,
- Possible AI output: "En garde you fiends! You'll never take me alive!!"
- Player input: Gilbert gives you the stink-eye across the tavern.
- Possible AI output: He starts marching over to you with a determined look on his face.
How It Mixes With Other Modes
Story inputs can be combined with Do and Say to guide the AI during your adventures, or they can be used entirely on their own to create standalone stories without any game-like elements.
You can write full prose, and the AI will write with you like a tandem story.
- Use Story when you want direct control over narration.
- Use it with Do and Say to shape mixed-mode scenes.
- Use it alone if you want freeform prose instead of command-style inputs.
First Person and Second Person
Story does not automatically change first-person to second-person wording, so if you want to stay in second person, write in second person.
You can write in first person, but the AI may become confused and try to turn the rest of the story into first person too.
Tip
Get creative and be detailed with this mode. Simple inputs get simple responses, while longer and more specific inputs can produce richer results.
Story actions can be as long or short as you want. The shortest input the AI will understand is a single word, and the maximum size of an action is 4000 characters.
