Why does the AI forget or mix things up?
About the AI
The AI does not think or remember the way a human author does. Instead of possessing a permanent memory of your entire adventure, the AI operates using a temporary processing window called a context window.
There are a few key reasons why the AI might forget specific details or mix up elements of your story:
The Moving Context Window
The AI can only read a certain amount of text at one time, measured in units called tokens. As your story grows longer and you generate hundreds of actions, older text naturally gets pushed out of this active window to make room for your newest inputs. Once a detail falls outside of this window, the AI completely loses sight of it and must fill in the blanks using creative guesswork.
Pattern Matching Over Actual Fact Checking
AI models work by predicting the most probable words to follow your current input based on patterns learned during training. The AI does not actually cross reference a database of facts about your world. If two characters have similar sounding names, or if a scene layout is highly complex, the AI can easily mix up who is speaking or where an item is located because those patterns look similar in its processing engine.
Context Overload
If you have a massive amount of text pinned in your memory systems, such as dozens of complex Story Cards or highly detailed Plot Essentials, the active window can become crowded. When too much information is forced into the context at once, the AI can get confused by competing details, leading to mixed up plot points or contradictory logic.
How to Fix It: You can easily keep the AI on track by keeping your Plot Essentials short and specific, clearing out outdated memory notes, and using the edit tool immediately when the AI makes a mistake so it does not continue building on incorrect information.
