📖What is an RPG Story in QuestSmith?
Learn how RPG Stories combine AI storytelling with interactive gameplay mechanics in QuestSmith.
An RPG Story in QuestSmith is an interactive Adventure that combines AI-driven storytelling with RPG gameplay mechanics. Instead of only reading and responding to a story, you play as a character, make decisions, fight enemies, complete quests, manage resources, interact with Companions, and shape the Adventure through your actions.
Your character, inventory, combat, quests, decisions, and other gameplay elements can continue to develop as the Adventure progresses, creating a more game-like and immersive story experience.

Character System
Your RPG character can have a detailed identity and attributes that help define how they interact with the Adventure. Character information can include:
- Name
- Race
- Class
- Gender
- Age
- Appearance
- Personality
- Motive
- Backstory
- Skills
QuestSmith can also use core RPG stats such as:
- Combat — Physical strength and battle effectiveness.
- Magic — Spellcasting and mystical abilities.
- Stealth — Sneaking, agility, and covert actions.
- Social — Persuasion, charisma, and dialogue influence.
HP & MP
RPG characters can have persistent resources that are tracked throughout the Adventure.
- HP (Health Points): Represents your character's current health.
- MP (Mana Points): Used for magic and special abilities.
These resources can become important during combat and other challenging situations.
D20 Dice & Action Checks
QuestSmith supports D20-based gameplay mechanics for uncertain or risky actions. When an action requires a check, the system can use:
- D20 Rolls to determine the outcome.
- Difficulty Class (DC) to determine how challenging the action is.
- Stat Modifiers to influence the result based on your character's abilities.
- Win Chance Preview to show your chances before making the roll.
- Animated Dice Results to make the action feel more like an RPG game.
This allows your decisions to have meaningful gameplay consequences while keeping the story flexible.
Combat System
Combat is integrated directly into your RPG Adventure rather than functioning as a separate game mode. During combat, you can encounter:
- Real-time combat situations
- Enemies with their own health
- Multiple enemies in a single encounter
- Persistent combat states
- Stat-driven battle outcomes
Your decisions and strategies during combat can influence both the battle and the continuing story.
Inventory & Loot
The Inventory, also known as your Backpack, stores the items and resources you collect during your Adventure. You can use it to:
- View your HP and enemy health.
- Manage your weapons and items.
- Equip weapons and items during combat.
- Use healing items to restore your health.
- Track your Gold Coins.
- Loot items from defeated enemies.
- Add collected enemy loot to your own Inventory.
When you defeat an enemy, you can loot items from their Backpack. The collected items are then added to your Inventory for use during your Adventure.
Quest System
RPG Stories can include Quests, which work like missions or objectives within your Adventure. As you progress through the story, new quests can appear based on the events and situations happening in your Adventure.
- New Quest Discovery as the story progresses.
- Active Quest Tracking to keep track of current objectives.
- Quest Completion when you accomplish the required objective.
- Completed Quest History to keep track of finished quests.
- Story-Driven Updates as new events and objectives develop.
Quests give your RPG Adventure additional goals to pursue while keeping the gameplay focused and engaging.
Companion System
You can bring a Companion into your RPG Adventure to fight and experience the story alongside you.
- Champion subscription: Unlocks the ability to add a Companion.
- Mythic subscription: Unlocks the ability to talk and interact directly with your Companion.
Your Companion is an active part of the Adventure. Their health represents their trust in you, and this trust can change based on your decisions and strategies.
For example:
- Making a poor combat decision can cause your Companion's health/trust to decrease.
- Fighting bravely and making effective decisions can increase their health/trust.
- Making a clever decision that benefits you and your Companion can strengthen their trust.
- If their trust becomes too low and you continue making poor decisions, your Companion may run away and leave you to handle the situation alone.
This makes the Companion an active part of your RPG gameplay rather than simply a character following you through the story.
Scene & World Awareness
QuestSmith tracks important information as your RPG Adventure develops, helping the AI maintain continuity between different situations and scenes. This can include:
- Current location
- Time of day
- Scene atmosphere and mood
- Environmental progression
- Character states
- Enemy states
- Ongoing story developments
This helps the Adventure respond naturally to your actions and maintain a consistent world as you progress.
RPG Story Experience
QuestSmith combines AI storytelling with RPG gameplay so that your Adventure is shaped by both the narrative and your decisions.
You can create a character, explore the world, make decisions, perform D20 action checks, fight enemies, manage your Inventory, loot defeated enemies, complete quests, and interact with Companions as your Adventure unfolds.
Your choices can affect not only what happens in the story, but also your character, resources, combat situations, quests, and relationships, making each RPG Adventure an interactive experience rather than a fixed story.
