📖What Is a Direct Story in QuestSmith?
Learn how Direct Stories provide simple, interactive storytelling without RPG-specific mechanics.
A Direct Story is a simple, interactive storytelling experience in QuestSmith. It is designed for users who want to focus on the story, characters, setting, and choices without setting up RPG-specific gameplay mechanics.
In a Direct Story, you define the basic idea and details of your Scenario, and the AI uses that information to generate and continue the Adventure. As you play, you can make decisions and take actions that influence how the story develops.
Direct Story Features
- Create Your Story: Define the basic concept of your Adventure by providing a title, cover image, and story description.
- Choose Content Rating: Select the appropriate audience level for your Story:
- Everyone
- Teen
- Mature
- Adult
- Add Story Tags: Add relevant tags that describe the genre, theme, or nature of your Story.
- Set Up Your Scenario: Provide the information needed to establish the setting, characters, and initial direction of your Story.
- AI Storytelling: Once your Adventure starts, the AI generates the narrative based on your Scenario and the ongoing story context.
- Make Your Choices: Interact with the Story by making decisions and taking actions. Your choices influence how the Adventure continues.
- Experience a Dynamic Story: The narrative develops as you play, allowing you to experience an interactive Story rather than following a completely fixed storyline.
Direct Story vs RPG Story
A Direct Story focuses primarily on interactive storytelling, while an RPG Story adds dedicated gameplay systems such as character stats, combat, quests, inventory, D20 action checks, and Companions.
If you want to simply create a story and play through it with AI, Direct Story is the straightforward option. If you want a more structured RPG gameplay experience, you can create an RPG Story instead.
