Say Mode
How Say mode formats dialogue and supports clearer speech inputs in Questsmith.
Say Mode
Using Say mode adds You say, to the beginning of your input and wraps what you type in quotation marks, unless you typed them yourself.
This is essentially Do mode, but as a shortcut for speech.
How It Works
The AI treats Say inputs similarly to Do inputs, so anything you type is recognized as a speaking action performed by your character, and it responds within the context of the story.
If the Third Person plot component is enabled, Questsmith replaces You with your character name so dialogue is attributed more clearly in the story. You can update that character name from the Flame menu in the upper left corner of the adventure screen.
Example
- Player input:
Where in the world did you come from? - Input sent to the AI:
> You say, "Where in the world did you come from?"
Tips
- Say is here for convenience and clarity. If you want more flavor, use Do to make the input more specific than a plain speaking action.
- You can shout, cry, ponder, or combine actions while speaking to make dialogue feel more dynamic.
- If you only use Do and Say modes during gameplay, the AI can become repetitive and keep starting lines with You. Mixing Do, Say, and Story gives the model a wider range of sentence patterns.
